What's Right With America

Here are some positive things to consider about America:

Think of the world community of 6.7 billion people as being represented by 100 persons. In a world made up of only 100 people, five of them would live in the United States and 95 would be citizens of other countries. These five people would:

  • Own 34% of the world's equity market capitalization, and the other 95 would share the other 66%.
  • Own 25% of the gross world product.
  • Be the largest importer of goods.
  • Have a gross national product more than two times that of Japan and larger than that of the European Union combined.

Life will be easier with a positive outlook. My these quotes on attitude add a positive thought to your day!

If you don't get everything you want, think of the things you don't get that you don't want. - Oscar Wilde

The human spirit is stronger than anything that can happen to it. - C.C. Scott

People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character. - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Wherever you go, no matter what the weather, always bring your own sunshine. - Anthony J. D'Angelo

Look Past the Problem

“Every choice you make and action you take matters. Every choice you do not make, every action you do not take, matters just as much. “

Andy Andrews, Mastering the Seven Decisions

As I read the paper recently a story caught my eye. 'Area hunter positive despite paralysis'. The story tells how a young man named Geoff broke his back while climbing out of a tree stand during hunting season. Yet given this extreme situation he remained upbeat and didn't let it get the best of him. After the accident he got married, shot a 14-point trophy buck, kept his new business running and helped another injured person. Geoff looks at every day as a new day and wonders, “What is God going to bless me with today?”

As I think about Geoff's accident, or any other devastating event, it is hard to imagine how anyone could have a positive attitude in such a situation. How could someone continue on and accomplish things like this young man did after such a drastic change in his life.

The story of Joseph illustrates a similar situation (Genesis 37-50). Joseph was a young man with a bright future, but his future changed abruptly. He was sold into slavery by his brothers, accused of sexual assault, punished for doing the right thing, unjustly imprisoned and forgotten by those he helped. But in all this he remained positive. He did not ask “Why?” and focus on the negative. Instead he looked at the situation and thought “What shall I do now?” And with this positive outlook, Joseph rose to become the ruler of Egypt and brought the country through a time of incredible hardship.

When you are faced with an event in life that seems impossible, think of Geoff and Joseph. Don't dwell on the negative and give up. God may have a plan to bless you today. Look where you are, find a new direction, and go on in new ways. Life doesn't end, it just changes.

How long have you used Emery-Pratt as a book vendor?

We've been with Emery-Pratt since 1999.

Why did you decide to order from us?

Our former Head of Tech Services established Emery-Pratt as our book vendor and when I became the department head, I didn't see the need to change. Also, being a native Michigander, I wanted to direct business to my home state.

Is there one service we offer that you find is of great value?

The 'one' service you offer is excellent customer service. Turn around time is always prompt and it's always nice to hear from our account representative, Ellen.
