Frequently Asked Questions
Need answers to your frequently asked questions? Find them here in our general questions and answers section. If you don't find the answer to your general question here, please call our toll-free line at 1-800-248-3887 and someone will personally assist you.
Q: What is the status of my book/order?
A: Upon receipt of your request, we contact the publisher to check the current status. If the item is unavailable from the publisher we will research availability through Internet sources and advise you by phone, fax or e-mail, as well as update your account on our website. Our goal in customer service is to contact you within 24 hours. However, when researching any request we may not receive an immediate response because we are dependent on the publisher for information. If this is the case we would then contact you, as well as update your order status on our website as information becomes available.
Q: Do you offer discounts?
A: Yes. Discounts start at 33% on all trade discounted materials. Along with that, you will receive a 10% discount on technical and reference materials. If we become your primary or secondary vendor contact your Account Manager about adjusting your discounts based on your purchasing volume. Discounts are based on publisher discounts. Most publishers provide discounts but there are some who don't.
Q: Do you offer binding services?
A: Yes we do. We offer three options to bind paperback books: Easy Cover II , Textmount, and Vinabind. Easy Cover II is an affordable way to provide paperbacks with hardcover qualities. The heavy polyester cover is permanently attached and increases the books life by more than five times. Reinforcement tape is also installed between the book and cover for added strength. Textmount places the original front and back covers on high-quality fabric with the title and author's last name printed on the spine. This allows the book long-lasting durability through 50 circulations—eight times more than normal. Vinabind turns new paperbacks into hardbound volumes while retaining the entire original paperback cover and protecting it with a wipe-clean lamination cover. Double-fan adhesive binding offers long-lasting durability and allows the pages to stay flat.

How long have you used Emery-Pratt as a book vendor?
Delgado Community College is a multi-campused community college. I initially used Emery-Pratt some years ago as the main vendor for the library at one of the smaller campuses. In the last 10 years or so, I started using Emery as one of our regular vendors for our main library as well.
Why did you decide to order from us?
I decided to try Emery-Pratt as a vendor after hearing and reading favorable comments about its reliability and excellent discounts. I was looking for alternatives to some of the “big box” vendors the school had used in the past.
Is there one service we offer that you find is of great value?
One of the most appealing services Emery-Pratt offers is the free shipping. With some vendors, the shipping costs often are perilously close to the cost of the books themselves. Also appealing is the quick supply time on most in-print titles. I would be remiss if I did not also mention the excellent customer service. Additionally, our sales representative stays in touch with us on an ongoing basis.

In the Spotlight

Since February 2001, Ray Austin has been one of our valuable employees. Ray is an outside account representative and is responsible for calling on libraries in the state of Indiana. His accounts include colleges/universities and most large public libraries in the state.
Ray lives in Terre Haute, IN with his wife, Pam, who he has been married to for more than 29 years. Ray comments that he and Pam “dated almost four years before we were married so she has been my girl for closer to 34 years.” Ray and his wife have three grown sons—Andy, Matt, and Seth. Andy, 26, is married to Amy and they have a son Ethan who is 19 months old. Andy is an 8th grade English Teacher in Indianapolis and Amy is an R.N. also working in Indianapolis. They are expecting their second son in March. Matt is 24 years old and a design engineer for Carrier Heating/Air Conditioning Manufacturing in Indianapolis. Matt has an 8 month old Pit Bull named Regan. According to Ray, their son Seth, 20, lives in their basement and has been offered a job working in an underground coal mine south of Danville, IL and will start work in early 2008. He loves music and plays numerous instruments, his favorite being the keyboard.
When asked his favorite book, Ray replied, “I would have to say that having more than 30 copies of this book would mean that it is my favorite. I have read through it many times and read it regularly. It is my Bible.”
When he's not working, Ray enjoys anything related to sports. He loves golfing, bowling, and playing softball. His newest interest is working out in the gym daily!
Ray is another reason why we are proud of our workforce here at Emery-Pratt! Great job, Ray!

EMPLOYEE CORNER
Emery-Pratt receptionist Arlene Ash and her husband, Lee, traveled to Nashville, TN at the end of February to attend the National Corn Growers Association annual meeting. Arlene and Lee received the National Corn Growers award for the state of Michigan. This award is based on the most bushels of corn raised per acre. Arlene and Lee have been farming since 1971.
While in Nashville, Arlene and Lee attended a get-together where they met other winners from around the country. They were able to visit an agricultural trade show, drop in on a country music show, and be the guests at the National Corn Yield Contest State Award Breakfast where they received their recognition for outstanding production.
Congratulations go out to Lee and Arlene for being the recipients of this distinguished award!

YOUR COMMENTS
We received the following letter of appreciation from Mary E. Chmara for the assistance that our Business Development Supervisor, Ray Brabo, has shown her over the years that she has been librarian at National College.
“I am a librarian at National College in Bluefield, Virginia.” “The purpose of my letter is to express sincere appreciation for the assistance that Mr. Brabo has given me during the four years I have been librarian at National. First, he is meticulous, enthusiastic, efficient, kind, gracious, and never rushed regardless of how menial an order to Emery might be. He treats an order of $100.00 as diligently as an order of $10,000 which is a commendable trait in an age ruled by the dollar mark. Because of Mr. Brabo I enjoy selecting and purchasing print and non-print materials from Emery-Pratt. (Often in librarians' meetings I hear other librarians express similar remarks.) Exact pricing as well as the expediency in pricing, which he provides, helps me tremendously as I adhere to the budget and purchasing procedures at National. Furthermore, he also spends extra time in helping me find specific titles and subjects requested by faculty members that not only improve the library collection but also their teaching. Ray is truly committed and passionate about doing the job WELL for Every Emery customer. Certainly he possesses a work ethic which is an exemplary model for others.”
“And so--I thought, perhaps, you would appreciate knowing why it is a pleasure to shop at Emery-Pratt for National College (Bluefield Campus) library. Surely, now you know that is is all about an employee named Ray Brabo.”
