Book Review
Louder Than Words
Jenny McCarthy
Jenny McCarthy's book is a must read. If you are a parent with a child who has been diagnosed with autism you need to read this book. If you know a child diagnosed with autism you need to read this book. If you are not familiar with autism, you too, need to read this book. I read this book in one sitting. I could not put it down. I am impressed with Jenny's ability to express into words her feelings and experiences.
Jenny begins her book telling the story of how and when her son, Evan, was diagnosed with autism. Then she shares the journey of what she found to be helpful for her son. I won't go into the specifics because I feel it is best for you to read it on your own. She does stress in the book that she is not a doctor. She is just sharing with you what worked for her son. At times I feel the language was a bit harsh, however I do understand her strong feelings. I think that was one reason I could not put this book down.
As a parent who has felt pain “louder than words” can describe, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. There were times I wanted to cry and there were times I wanted to laugh. Jenny McCarthy is someone who understands no just the struggles of autism but also the joys!

Michigan Library Association Conference
The 2007 Michigan Library Association Conference was held in Lansing, Michigan, at the beginning of November.
This year, Emery-Pratt had Michigan illustrator Gijsbert (Nick) van Frankenhuyzen signing copies of Mackinac Bridge: The Story of the Five Mile Poem. The book was chosen in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the making of Michigan's great state bridge, connecting the two pennisulas together. Avery Weaver and Byron Shattuck were the two Emery-Pratt representatives attending the show. They were able to meet many of our customers and speak to potential customers as well.
Thank you to all who stopped by. We look forward to working with you in the new year!
With the beginning of the New Year we would like to remind you of our commitment to provide you, our customers, with excellent, personalized service.
One way we do this is with the people on our staff. Our friendly staff is highly trained to take care of your needs in a competent, positive, and timely manner. We strive to make sure that someone is always available to talk with you person to person. It is important to us that each and every customer is treated with the same level of helpful service. We don't just want to meet your expectations, we want to exceed them.
The next time you call us and the voice on the other end says, "How may I help you?" please remember, we mean it and are looking forward to it!
Start Things Out Right
New Year's Eve has consistently been a time for looking back to the past, but more importantly, forward to the new year. It is a time to "start again", to discard bad habits of the previous year and begin anew. Here are several resolutions or goals that our employees vow to work on in the coming year:
"I do not make New Years Resolutions but do like to set goals. My number one goal is to make sure I get spiritual and physical exercise at least 5 days per week."
Pam Shattuck, Accounts Receivable
"My first resolution is to try to do my Christmas shopping before December 24th, and my second is to make sure my snow blower has gas in the tank before the first snow storm."
Ray Brabo, Business Development Supervisor
"Clean the house, garage, and pole barn of things we have no use for--37 years of stuff! This starts with the taking down of Christmas decorations."
Sue Hernandez, Human Resources/Account Manager

"To all of my friends at E-P. Thank you so much for finding two really nice copies of Judy Goldman's Wanting to Know the End. It is an obscure title and copies of it are rare. Both of the ones you found for us are autographed! It is such a pleasure to work with you."
