Transitioning to ISBN-13

With the January 1, 2007 implementation of the ISBN-13 format approaching, Emery-Pratt Company has been working to make the transition as simple and efficient as possible for our customers. Over the past year we have made the appropriate modifications to our systems so they work properly with this new format.

These changes effect both our online and internal systems to ensure everything works correctly with the 10 and 13 digit formats. In implementing these changes we have followed the recommendations of the Book Industry Study Group (BISG) so the change would be seamless as possible.

Some of the changes include:

• the ability to use both the 10 and 13 digit formats simultaneously while searching our online ordering system
• proper conversion of ISBN numbers in our internal systems
• use of the ISBN checksum digit to verify the number was entered correctly
• integration of ISBN-13 format for EDI orders
